Suspect Arrested for Counterfeiting of Money and Criminal Possession of Illegal Narcotics

Orange County - According to The Orange County Register, Matthew Barnard, of Corona, was formally arrested on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia and possession of stolen property. Barnard was said to have attempted to pay for his meal at a local Arby's with counterfeit bills.

Orange County sheriff's deputies were called to an Arby's restaurant on Monday night after an employee at the Arby's called authorities to report that two customers had tried to pay for their Arby's meals with two counterfeit $20 bills. Upon further search, deputes also found more counterfeit bills.

California Penal Code Section 470(d)covers the crime of counterfeiting, and the statute makes clear that the counterfeiting of legal tender is a criminally sanctionable act with substantial penalties, which may include, but is not limited to, fines and/or jail/prison time. Los Angeles Storeowner Fatally Shot in Burglary

Los Angeles, California - LAPD patrol officers and detectives found a 72-year-old man who owned a 98-Cent Store. According to the released facts, police discovered the victim who was suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head caused by an attempted robbery.

The crime allegedly involved three suspects, described as two male Hispanics, and a third man who allegedly wore a grey long-sleeve pullover shirt with a black beanie knit cap. All three of the victims also appeared to be wearing black knit gloves. During this series of events, the 72 year-old was mortally wounded with a gunshot to his head.

According to California Penal Code Section 187, Murder is defined as "the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought." Moreover, according to Section 211 of the California Penal Code, Robbery is defined as "felonious taking of personal property in the possession of another, from his person or immediate presence, and against his will, accomplished by means of force or fear." Man Arrested for Drug Crimes for Smuggling Crystal Meth

The Orange County Register reported that U.S. Border Patrol agents recently seized $356,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine in San Clemente after agents conducted a stop of a Dodge Durango truck which was headed north on the Interstate 5 at around 11:15 a.m. last Thursday. Evidently, the driver of the Dodge Durango granted the agents permission to search his car, after which the narcotics in question were discovered.

Man Arrested in Connection With Burglary in Fountain Valley

According to the Orange County Register, Fountain Valley police responded to a burglary alarm at R. L. Ebbert Co., a construction/mining equipment wholesaler, thereafter arresting a man who they suspect broke into a wholesale equipment business and stole several computers and a TV.

In relevant part, Charles Daniel Perez Jr., 32, of Santa Ana, was arrested and charged with burglary and possession of stolen property. Moreover, Perez is currently on parole from the State Department of Corrections, and is now being held without bail.

Laguna Beach Executives charged with Real Estate Fraud and Grand Theft

Laguna Beach, Orange County - Laguna Beach residents James Eaton and his son Brian Eaton have been arrested and charged with over 20 felony grand in order to attract more business from lenders.

Both men have been arrested last week. If convicted, they could be sentenced to 18 years in prison. Both the father and the son worked at an Irvine company in the appraisals for residential properties during 2005 and 2007 properties. During the years they were working with the company, they falsified appraisals and overstated the value of properties so that lenders could take higher profit for the loans with higher appraisal prices.

Between April 17, 2006 and Dec. 30, 2006, they have allegedly changed the appraisal values up to $40,000. Orange County District Attorney's office are still investigating the case.

Orange County Crimes Up in Irvine, Fullerton and Costa Mesa in 2009

According to Orange County Register that surprisingly some of the safest Orange County's cities have been added to the list of the cities with more violent crimes this year, even though the number of crimes nationwide has been dropped dramatically this year.

According to the report, some of the cities in Orange County which used to be considered as violent crime cities have reportedly seen improvement this year, cities such as Santa Ana, Huntington Beach, Westminster, Anaheim, Garden Grove and Orange.

Irvine, the safest city in the county with lowest crime rate, has seen violent crime increased significantly. The reported violent crimes have increased 42 percent
Irvine city has reported more felony crimes on the rise in some serious criminal charges, such as grand theft, assault and battery, assault with deadly weapon, domestic violence, fraud, white collar crime, embezzlement, aggravated assaults and violent crimes. However, Irvine is still considered as the safest city to live as the rate of the violent crimes is only 3.9 per 10,000 residents.

The reported violent crimes in the city of Costa Mesa and Fullerton are also on the rise. Costa Mesa has a 15 percent rise on the violent crimes and Fullerton has a reported 40 percent of the increase for violent crimes.

In Orange County, murder crimes dropped by 10 percent in 2009. In Orange County rape charges have been decreased by 3.3 percent and robbery dropped by 6.5 percent.

Orange County Man was charged with hit-and-run death

SANTA ANA, Orange County - A man was convicted of felony hit-and-run death of a man who were wrongfully convicted of two armed robberies. Felix Abreu of Santa Ana was convicted of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run at the scene of the crime in Feb 2008, causing the death of Arthur Carmona. Carmona was wrongfully convicted of two armed robberies at his teenage years and spent 2.5 years in prison.

Abreu crashed and ran over Carmona's car and fled the scene. Carmona was pronounced dead at Garden Grove Hospital. Abreu pleaded guilty and asked Orange County Superior Court Judge for a probationary sentence.

Former Rancho Santa Margarita Pastor Convicted of Sex Crime with Minor

Santa Ana, Orange County - A Rancho Santa Margarita church pastor was convicted of felony sex crime today for having sex with an underage girl.

Shane Horning, of San Jose, was charged with 4 felony oral copulation with a minor. During 2005 and 2006, the young girl at the age 16 met Horning when he was a youth pastor at Margarita Methodist Church .

In 2009, Horning sent a sexual oriented text message to the girl's 15-year-old relative. He was convicted of one felony count of attempted oral copulation of a minor under 16. Horning is facing one year in jail and 5 years of probation.

Woman Convicted of Embezzlement and Grand Theft from Children's Shelter

SANTA ANA, Orange County - A former assistant working at children's shelter was convicted of felony charges of embezzlement and white collar crimes for stealing almost half million dollars from the company. Lydia Fitzgerald, was convicted of 49 felony grand theft and embezzlement charges, and was ordered to pay $390,000 in restitution.

During 2004 to 2007, she worked as an assistant at the organization. She was charged with credit card fraud and forgery for using the company credit cards and forging checks. She transferred the fund from the company account to her personal account for personal use. She is facing 4 years in prison.

Orange County Man Convicted of Grand Theft and Fraud in a Ponzi Scheme

Santa Ana, Orange County - A San Juan Capistrano man has been charged with grand theft, white collar crimes and fraud. He was accused of bilking over $11 million from 124 senior citizens in a fraudulent investment plan.

Jeffrey Butler was convicted of 694 felony counts of grand theft from investors through the ponzi scheme. The fraud case is so far one of the largest elder-abuse cases in Orange County. Butler offered to his clients12 percent return for investing the money with him. And then he took their money through a Ponzi scheme. Majority of the victims are over the age of 70, have lost their life savings.

4 Family Member dead in San Clemente Orange County Homicide

SAN CLEMENTE, California. - A former Irvine attorney, her two girls and mother were found dead in a murder suicide Tue. Elizabeth Fontaine was in a custody dispute with her ex-husband. She appeared in court Monday morning and was supposed to be back to court in the afternoon.

The homicide happened at an upscale Orange County home in San Clemente. Fontaine moved to Houston a month ago with her daughters. They came back to Orange County for the custody hearing. The family was at a friend's house when the killings happened. A handgun was found at the scene. The case is still under investigation.

Newport Beach Woman Charged with Grand Theft and Real Estate fraud

Newport Beach, Orange County - A Newport Beach woman has been arrested for mortgage fraud, real estate fraud and bank fraud. Mailan Tran, of Newport Coast, was charged with felony grand theft and conspiracy to commit grand theft with sentencing enhancements of causing banks lose more than $2.5 million. If convicted of all charges, she will be facing 14 years and eight months in prison.

Orange County 5 Murders Linked to an Ex-Marine

A former Marine was indicted by an Orange County grand jury Monday. He confessed to killing 5 women in Southern California. Andrew Urdiales was arrested in 1997 for slayings 3 women. He confessed in detail for murdering 8 women in a nine-year spree.

For Southern California and Orange County murder cases, Urdiales was charged with 5 murders in Orange, San Diego and Riverside counties during 1986 and 1995. 24 years ago, Urdiales killed Robbin Brandley at Saddleback College in Mission Viejo. Men Charged Felony Robbery of lender's home

Newport Beach, Orange County - One Orange County man and four Los Angeles men were charged with armed robbery and assault with firearm for robbing the house of founder of Quick Loan Funding in Newport Beach. The robbers assaulted 9 people in the house during the home invasion and caused the serious injuries to the victims. The robbers have been arrested Tue night. Peter Paturzo, of Mission Viejo, and the 4 men from Los Angeles have been charged with the felony arm robbery and felony assault in the crime. A $1 million warrant has been issued for the arrest of two other robbers.

The suspects have been charged with felony conspiracy to commit robbery, felony kidnapping to commit robbery, felony first degree robbery in concert, and felony assault with a firearm. If they are convicted on all counts, they could be facing the sentencing of life in state prison.

Irvine Billionnair's son facing conviction drug crimes and domestic violence

Irvine, Orange County - The son of Irvine company developer Donald Bren was charged with Domestic violence and dissuading witness. Steven Bren was convicted of disturbing the peace and illegal drug possession without prescription. He was ordered by the judge to take drug counseling program.

Man who killed bicyclist Convicted of Felony Vehicular Manslaughter While intoxicated

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Orange County - An Orange County man, Jeffrey Woods, was convicted of felony vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated. Downey Man Convicted of Vehicular Manslaughter

According to the Orange County Register, 22-year-old Downey resident Kenneth McNair was convicted yesterday of vehicular manslaughter by unlawful act with gross negligence while intoxicated, a felony under California Law. He was also convicted of driving without a valid driver's license, which is also a misdemeanor. McNair tried to flee the scene of the crime, which is a sentence enhancement. Fountain Valley Store owner Charged with Drug Sales

WESTMINSTER, Orange County - A Fountain Valley store owner was arrested for marijuana sale at his store. Bigira KiroKiro will be in Westminster West Justice Center for his charge on selling marijuana.
